Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre, Abuja, have reportedly arrested actress Angela Okorie in connection with an alleged cyberbullying case involving fellow Nollywood star Mercy Johnson.

The arrest was said to have taken place on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Okorie’s residence in Lagos. Following her arrest, she was reportedly detained overnight at the Yaba, Panti Police Station before being flown to Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday to face further legal proceedings.

The development was made public by journalist and founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, who disclosed the details via his Instagram page on Wednesday. According to him, the actress was placed on a 6 a.m. flight to Abuja to answer charges linked to a cybercrime complaint allegedly filed by Mercy Johnson.

Oloketuyi stated that the matter is being handled by the Nigeria Police Force Cybercrime Centre and is expected to proceed to court in Abuja.

The reported arrest comes barely a week after Mercy Johnson publicly declared that persistent online harassment directed at her and her family would no longer be tolerated in 2026, signaling a firmer stance against cyberbullying.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Angela Okorie nor Mercy Johnson has issued an official statement regarding the incident, while police authorities are yet to release a formal briefing on the case.
