A new leadership chapter has begun at Kids FM Lagos with the appointment of Yvonne Okhaifoh as Programme Manager, a move that underscores the station’s renewed focus on intentional, value-driven children’s programming.

The appointment reflects a broader commitment to content that speaks with children rather than at them, prioritising confidence-building, curiosity, and emotional intelligence. The new Programme Manager has consistently championed an approach to children’s radio that respects young minds while guiding them thoughtfully.

With a background spanning broadcast journalism, voice acting, and theatre, the newly appointed executive brings a deep-rooted passion for storytelling and sound. She holds a degree in English and Literature from the University of Benin, an academic foundation that continues to shape her programme design, on-air presence, and narrative style. Her professional training includes international exposure as an alumna of the Radio Netherlands Training Centre (RNTC) and experience as a writing fellow with African Liberty, affiliated with Students for Liberty.

Fondly referred to as Principal Vonne, she is known for a leadership style that blends structure with empathy. The nickname, colleagues say, reflects a calm but firm disposition and a natural inclination toward mentoring and guiding young audiences.

Currently, she anchors Homebound, the weekday 3pm–6pm show that eases children from the school day into reflective conversations and music. On Saturdays, she hosts Think Tank, a programme designed to encourage critical thinking, curiosity, and open-minded engagement with the world.

Describing her leadership style, she identifies three defining traits: toughness, intelligence, and empathy—qualities that, according to colleagues, are evident in her standards, innovation, and people-focused approach.

Beyond the studio, she is known for her thoughtful worldview. She has expressed that, outside broadcasting, she would have chosen a career in academia. She admires depth and authenticity in storytelling, citing Viola Davis as someone she would like to share a conversation with. Her personal soundtrack includes “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child, while her interests range from strong-plot films to dance, a talent few associate with her calm on-air persona.

Central to her vision as Programme Manager is repositioning Kids FM as a wholesome, trusted space for both children and parents. Plans are underway to introduce carefully curated programming that blends education, information, and entertainment, with parents recognised as key stakeholders in the station’s content strategy.

Under the new leadership, listeners can expect programmes that support learning beyond the classroom, promote positive values, stimulate creativity, and encourage healthy family conversations—all while retaining the playful energy that defines children’s radio.

As Kids FM ushers in this new era, the focus is clear: shaping culture, nurturing young voices, and building a station children can grow with and parents can trust.
