Liverpool have reportedly made initial contact with former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso as speculation grows over the club’s long-term managerial plans.

Reports indicate that the former Spain international has already received a call from Liverpool officials, with indications that his response was positive, despite currently being on a break. Alonso was recently relieved of his duties at Real Madrid and subsequently replaced by Álvaro Arbeloa.

The 44-year-old is no stranger to managerial success, having previously impressed during his spell at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, where he earned widespread praise for his tactical approach and leadership.

Alonso also shares a strong historical connection with Liverpool, having played for the club during his professional career. That relationship has fueled further interest in whether he would be open to a return to Anfield in a coaching capacity.

Liverpool are presently managed by Arne Slot, but the Dutch tactician is facing mounting pressure following inconsistent performances this season. The Reds currently sit fourth in the Premier League standings and appear unlikely to defend the title they won last season.

While no official decision has been made, the reported contact with Alonso suggests Liverpool may be exploring contingency options as the campaign progresses.
