A large-scale recall affecting more than 413,000 vehicles has been announced in the United States after regulators identified a problem linked to rearview camera functionality. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a software defect that can cause the camera image to fail, raising potential safety concerns for drivers.

The recall covers certain Volvo XC40 models from the 2021 through 2025 model years. To address the problem, the manufacturer plans to deploy a software update at no cost to customers. The fix will be available either through authorized dealers or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, allowing many owners to receive the correction without visiting a service center.

This marks the second recall involving the same models and markets for a similar issue, following an earlier action taken in May of last year. Volvo has indicated that further investigation uncovered an additional software-related fault that can trigger the same rearview camera malfunction. The company said it is finalizing a remedial software package, with an OTA rollout expected in the coming weeks to ensure all affected vehicles are properly addressed.
