The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed Morocco as the host nation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), putting to rest recent rumours suggesting a possible withdrawal. Reports had indicated that South Africa could step in as a replacement, but CAF President Patrice Motsepe dismissed such speculation during a press briefing in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Friday.

Motsepe also reaffirmed that the tournament schedule remains unchanged, with the finals set to run from 17 March to 3 April 2026.

Morocco has a strong recent history with the competition, having hosted the last two editions of WAFCON. The upcoming tournament will not only determine continental supremacy but also serve as the qualifying pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic spots in the global event.
