Nigerian music star Davido has formally withdrawn his legal petition seeking custody arrangements for his daughter, Imade, bringing an end to a closely watched dispute that had drawn widespread public attention.

The singer clarified that his request before the court was for joint custody with the child’s mother, Sophia Momodu, rather than sole custody as had been speculated in some quarters. He maintained that his objective was to secure unrestricted access and remain an active presence in his daughter’s life.

In a series of statements shared on social media, Davido explained that he chose to discontinue the case following what he described as an ethical breach during proceedings. According to him, the matter took a distressing turn when his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, was referenced during cross-examination.

The artiste said the mention of his deceased child crossed a personal boundary he could not accept, prompting his decision to step away from the legal battle. While expressing confidence in his courtroom arguments, he noted that invoking his late son was a “lowest blow” and shifted the tone of the case in a way he found unacceptable.

Davido, whose album Timeless reaffirmed his international influence, also addressed online reactions framing the withdrawal as a victory for one party or the other. He rejected such characterisations, stating that deeply personal family disputes played out in public do not produce winners.

“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade,” he wrote, urging observers not to celebrate the outcome. He added that his daughter would eventually understand that his actions were driven by a desire to assert his right to shared parenting and meaningful involvement in her upbringing.

By withdrawing the petition, Davido signalled his intention to move forward, describing the decision as one made in the interest of personal boundaries and emotional closure rather than legal triumph.
