“With this first acquisition, Mistral AI takes a significant step forward in its mission to build a full-stack AI champion and advance cutting-edge AI infrastructure,” the company said in a statement.
Koyeb, headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, offers serverless cloud computing services and will see its 13 employees and three co-founders integrate into Mistral’s team. The acquisition aims to strengthen Mistral’s technological and operational capabilities, particularly in cloud infrastructure—a critical component for AI deployment at scale.
Mistral, valued at $11.7 billion in September following a strategic investment from chipmaking equipment supplier ASML, is considered Europe’s largest AI company. Last week, the firm unveiled plans for a €1.2 billion ($1.42 billion) investment in new data centers in Sweden, signaling its commitment to keeping AI operations and cloud servers in Europe rather than relying on U.S.-based competitors such as OpenAI.
The acquisition of Koyeb aligns with Mistral’s broader strategy to build a European AI ecosystem with full-stack capabilities, combining advanced AI models with locally hosted infrastructure to meet growing demand for scalable, secure, and sovereign AI services.
