Nigerian gospel singer and minister Nathaniel Bassey has shared a harrowing encounter with an alleged traditional worshipper who reportedly tried to place him under a spell.

Speaking during a worship session, Bassey said the unidentified individual approached him twice, attempting to command him while performing rituals he described as “enchantments.” He explained that despite the efforts, the attempts were unsuccessful.

“I don’t know how we knew, but this was the second time that this same guy, the ‘juju man,’ was coming. One time on the express road, he came and knocked. He was casting an enchantment, hoping that it would influence me. He was commanding me to do something, but I just stood there and laughed,” Bassey recounted.

Referencing scripture, the gospel minister cited protection over his life, adding, “I said, didn’t they tell you that as they went from one kingdom to another, He suffered no man to do them wrong; He rebuked kings for their sake, saying, ‘Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm’? I just regretted that I should have kept him there for the police. While he was there, he was waiting for the spell to work on me. But Numbers 23:23 says there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.”

Bassey stressed the importance of spiritual covering and awareness of unseen forces at work in the world. “I came out of my car and ordered him to get out of here, you dirty devil, quick. I’m not saying this to boast, but while we do not glorify the devil, there is wickedness in the world,” he said.

The incident highlights Bassey’s belief in the spiritual dimensions of life and the need for vigilance against malevolent forces, even in modern society.
