Nollywood actor Tayo Amokade, widely known as Ijebu, has urged law enforcement authorities to take decisive action following the alleged suicide attempt of content creator King Mitchy during a TikTok livestream.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday at the peak of her highly publicised online feud with social media personality VeryDarkMan. King Mitchy was said to have consumed a harmful household cleaning substance during the broadcast, an act that shocked viewers and quickly circulated across social platforms.
In the aftermath, her management announced her death — a claim that sparked widespread outrage, confusion, and renewed conversations about cyberbullying, online harassment, and the psychological toll of digital conflicts.
Reacting to the development, Ijebu expressed deep concern about the potential consequences of such content, particularly on teenagers and young adults who form a significant portion of social media users. He stressed that cleaning products are not meant for human consumption and warned that dramatizing or publicising self-harm online could send dangerous and misleading signals to impressionable audiences.
Calling on the police and relevant regulatory authorities to investigate the matter, the actor emphasised the influence Gen Z content creators wield over their followers. According to him, individuals with large online platforms have a responsibility to act as positive role models rather than promote harmful behaviour.
“I want to pass this message to everybody, especially to our police. We have children between the ages of 10 and 21 who have access to social media,” he said, questioning how substances meant for household cleaning could be portrayed as a means of self-harm during live broadcasts.
Ijebu further argued that depression should not be trivialised or presented in ways that normalise suicide attempts, urging authorities to take action against anyone who uses social media platforms to dramatise or encourage self-harm.
The incident has intensified public debate over content regulation, mental health awareness, and the responsibilities of influencers in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital space.
