Lamar led all winners with five awards, including Record of the Year for Luther, his acclaimed collaboration with SZA. The wins pushed him to a new milestone: he is now the most-awarded hip-hop artist in Grammy history with 27 total trophies, surpassing the long-standing record held by Jay-Z.
The biggest categories were spread across a wide range of artistes. Bad Bunny claimed Album of the Year for DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, making history as the first Spanish-language album to win the prize in the Grammys’ 68-year history. The Puerto Rican star took home three awards overall and is set to headline next weekend’s Super Bowl halftime show. Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for Wildflower, while Olivia Dean was named Best New Artist, marking a breakthrough moment in her career.
In total, the Recording Academy handed out awards across 95 categories, many of which were announced earlier in the day during the pre-telecast premiere ceremony. One standout moment from that event came when Golden from KPop Demon Hunters won Best Song Written for Visual Media, earning the K-pop genre its first Grammy victory in that category.
African music, however, had a bittersweet night. Nigerian stars Burna Boy, Davido, Ayra Starr, Wizkid and Omah Lay all left without awards. Burna Boy missed out in both Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album, while South African singer Tyla claimed the African music prize. Her win marked her second in the category, following her earlier victory with Water when the award was first introduced.
The ceremony was hosted by Trevor Noah for the sixth and final time. Known for blending humor with commentary, the comedian delivered several pointed jokes, including references to the White House and President Donald Trump. After the show, Trump responded publicly to one of Noah’s jabs, criticizing the host and extending the night’s political undertones beyond the stage.
Politics also surfaced in acceptance speeches and fashion statements. Several artistes, including Billie Eilish, criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, while a number of stars wore “ICE OUT” pins on the red carpet as a sign of protest.
Musically, the night balanced celebration with reflection. The show featured a series of high-profile performances and a moving In Memoriam segment honoring legends such as Ozzy Osbourne, D’Angelo and Roberta Flack, reminding viewers of the industry’s enduring legacy.
By the end of the night, the 2026 Grammys stood out not just for its winners, but for its mix of historic achievements, global representation and unapologetic social commentary—underscoring the evolving role of music’s biggest stage.
