Nigerian comic actor Bamidele Tope Saint, popularly known as Okemesi, is currently in a coma due to complications arising from medication administered during a recent hospital stay.

Fellow actor Jeff Owolewa shared the update on Instagram, explaining that Okemesi’s condition worsened shortly after being discharged last week, prompting readmission to a private medical facility.

Struggle to Receive Care

According to Owolewa, several hospitals initially turned Okemesi away before he could be readmitted to the private hospital where he had previously received treatment.

“The actor is currently on oxygen support, and reports indicate that his breathing is gradually improving,” Owolewa said.

Okemesi had recently moved into a new apartment provided through public support, following a fundraising campaign to assist him with his ongoing health challenges and previous struggles with homelessness.

Appeal for Support

Narrating the sequence of events, Owolewa explained:

“Guys, Okemesi has been hospitalized again. He was sleeping all through Saturday and Sunday without much appetite due to complications from the drugs given to him when he was discharged last week. I rushed to his house very early on Monday to take him to the hospital. He was rejected by different hospitals, including a government hospital in Igodo, where the doctor refused to attend to him citing no bed space. I had to take him back to the first private hospital that started his treatment. They admitted him and stabilized him.”

He urged Nigerians to pray for Okemesi’s recovery and appealed for financial assistance to help cover his treatment costs:

“His breathing is improving. He has been in a coma since Monday morning. They’ve placed him on oxygen, and we’re all praying that he gets back on track.”
