Fresh tension has emerged in Nigeria’s music industry after Afrobeat star Wizkid publicly criticised veteran singer 2Baba for ranking Burna Boy ahead of him on the global stage.

The controversy followed a recent interview 2Baba granted to journalist Seun Okinbaloye, where he shared his thoughts on the much-debated “Big 3” — a label commonly used to describe Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as Nigeria’s leading global music exports.

When asked who currently stands tallest among the trio internationally, 2Baba named Burna Boy as the number one Nigerian artiste “on the global stage,” a remark that quickly stirred reactions among fans and industry watchers.

Wizkid did not hold back in his response. In a post shared on Snapchat, the Grammy-winning singer took aim at his senior colleague, referring to him as an “old man” and suggesting he focus on resolving personal matters rather than weighing in on industry rankings.

“At least make peace with your family first before having opinions about music. Old man,” Wizkid wrote, adding, “I’m never letting it slack in 2026.”

The pointed remark has since fueled online debate, with supporters of the respective artistes trading views over who truly dominates Nigeria’s global music footprint.

The exchange adds another chapter to the ongoing “Big 3” conversation, a rivalry that has shaped fan discourse for years as Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy continue to achieve international milestones.

Only a few months ago, Wizkid declared himself the country’s number one Afrobeat star, reinforcing his confidence in his global standing. His latest comments suggest he remains firmly protective of that claim as discussions about supremacy in Nigeria’s music industry continue to spark heated reactions.
