Veteran actor Chiwetalu Agu has called on young people to strike a balance between enjoying their youth and preparing for the challenges of old age.

In a recent Instagram video, Agu reflected on the realities of ageing, highlighting health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, and other age-related conditions. He encouraged young people to make the most of their youth while also planning for the future.

“Old age comes with one problem or another. If it is not diabetes, it is high blood pressure. If it is not heart problems, it may be kidney or liver issues. If it is not stroke, then it could be brain-related problems,” Agu said. “Enjoy yourself while you are young. Time waits for no one. Live your life to the fullest where you have the opportunity. Old age is not child’s play.”

Beyond enjoying life, Agu stressed the importance of financial planning, family responsibility, and spiritual grounding. He cited Ecclesiastes 3:1, noting that “to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven,” urging young people to invest wisely and prepare for future obligations.

“Hold God tight. Treat your family right and make plenty of money. Your bills will not pay themselves. Invest now while you can. The bills you will face in old age will be far more demanding than what you spend in clubs today. At that time, you won’t be spending with hope and joy—you’ll be counting and worrying,” he added.

Agu’s message blends caution with encouragement, reminding young people that careful preparation and balance can make the later years of life more secure and fulfilling.
