The entrepreneur — widely known as “Jubril of Lagos” for his footprint in Lagos’ automobile sector — revealed the initiative on Saturday, February 28, marking his birthday with a forward-looking declaration of intent. He described the venture as a long-term play to build “a unicorn brand in the automobile industry” within five years, positioning Hybrid Motors Nigeria as a bridge between growing demand for cleaner mobility and the practical gaps that have slowed adoption.
A Nationwide Supply and Service Model
Hybrid Motors Nigeria plans to operate through a nationwide supply and service framework, offering vehicles that combine petrol engines with either compressed natural gas or electric power, alongside fully electric models. The strategy, according to Arogundade, is not limited to product sales but extends to building the ecosystem required to sustain alternative-fuel mobility in Nigeria.
He outlined seven operational pillars that will underpin the company’s rollout:
- Local assembly of hybrid and electric vehicles
- National distribution of petrol, hybrid and EV models
- Aftersales service and technical training centres
- Spare parts supply and distribution networks
- EV charging systems and stations featuring “energy intelligence”
- Auto asset financing solutions
- Auto asset leasing services
The model suggests an integrated approach — combining vehicle access with maintenance support, financing, and infrastructure — designed to address long-standing concerns about service readiness and parts availability in Nigeria’s automotive market.
Phased Expansion Plans
The company’s physical presence will be introduced in stages. An official showroom is expected to open in June, while plans for a factory are slated for next year. Although Arogundade referenced strategic partnerships intended to accelerate the company’s market entry and broader industry transformation, specific collaborators were not disclosed.
Additional information regarding the initial vehicle lineup, partnership structures, and detailed rollout timelines is expected ahead of the showroom launch.
Riding Nigeria’s Shift Toward Alternative Mobility
Interest in hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles has been growing in Nigeria, driven by rising fuel costs, operating efficiency concerns, and increasing attention to cleaner transport solutions. Fleet operators and private motorists alike are exploring options that promise lower running costs, fuel flexibility, and more predictable maintenance expenses.
Hybrid Motors Nigeria says its value proposition lies in aligning vehicle supply with service infrastructure — ensuring that buyers are supported by trained technicians, accessible spare parts, and reliable charging systems after purchase.
If executed as planned, the venture could contribute to reshaping Nigeria’s automotive landscape, particularly as conversations around energy transition and sustainable transport gain momentum nationwide.
