The Real Madrid star admitted he finds it difficult to imagine the global tournament without Neymar, describing him as one of football’s defining figures on the world stage.
Brazil’s squad for upcoming fixtures against France and Croatia was recently announced by head coach Carlo Ancelotti. However, Neymar—who currently plays for Santos FC—was left out, with the coach citing concerns over his full fitness.
Reacting to the decision, Neymar acknowledged his disappointment, admitting he was saddened not to be included in the squad as he continues his recovery.
Mbappé, however, struck an optimistic tone when addressing the situation, emphasizing Neymar’s importance to world football and backing him to return in time for the tournament.
“Neymar is Neymar. The World Cup is for world stars, and he will be there,” Mbappé said. “I cannot imagine a World Cup without Ney, but I won’t go against Ancelotti. I’m sure Ney will get ready.”
The comments reflect the high regard in which Neymar is still held by his peers, despite recent injury setbacks that have limited his appearances.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, attention will remain on Neymar’s fitness and form, as Brazil looks to assemble a squad capable of reclaiming global football’s biggest prize.
