The singer made the revelation during the listening party for his forthcoming album, Clarity Of Mind, where he spoke candidly about the emotional experience behind some of the project’s songs.
According to the artist, the relationship had lasted just two months but had already felt serious enough that he began imagining a future with the woman, including the possibility of having a child together.
However, the relationship began to fall apart shortly before and during the Grammy event in early February. Omah Lay said the tension escalated while he was at the ceremony, even as Justin Bieber was performing on stage.
“Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammy and Justin Bieber was performing, I was having a breakup and an embarrassing moment,” he said.
The singer explained that the emotional situation left him distracted throughout the ceremony, preventing him from fully experiencing the event.
“While I was at the Grammys, I was not present because even before the show I had already started having issues in my relationship,” he said. “And this was only a two-month-old relationship. But I thought it was the right relationship and I was going to have a baby.”
Reflecting on the experience, Omah Lay admitted that he often struggles to balance romantic relationships with his music career. He said he tends to become completely immersed in whatever currently occupies his attention, which can make it difficult to manage multiple priorities.
The singer noted that this personal tendency partly inspired his song Don’t Love Me.
“I don’t know how to do two things at a time. When I am into one thing, all of me is into that. So, I wasn’t even present at the Grammys. I didn’t even enjoy anything,” he explained.
He added that the song reflects his conflicted approach to relationships, suggesting that he sometimes chooses fleeting moments of happiness over long-term emotional commitments.
