Victor Osimhen, star forward for Galatasaray and the Super Eagles, has returned to Nigeria following a significant injury sustained during the first half of Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 at Anfield on Wednesday.

Osimhen collided early in the match with Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté but played through the pain for the entire first half. Post-match assessments revealed a fractured right forearm. The Nigerian international’s arm is currently in a cast, and he is waiting for swelling to subside before deciding whether surgical intervention is required.

Should surgery be necessary, medical reports indicate Osimhen could be sidelined for approximately six weeks. This may rule him out of upcoming Super Lig fixtures against Trabzonspor, Kocaelispor, and Gençlerbirliği S.K., while putting him in a race against time to be fit for the crucial match against Fenerbahçe on April 26.

Osimhen was already absent from the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming friendlies against Iran and Jordan in Antalya, Turkey. His return to Nigeria had been scheduled prior to the injury and the official squad announcement.

The former African Footballer of the Year has struggled with fitness issues this season, missing seven matches across both domestic league and European competitions. Nevertheless, he remains a pivotal figure for Galatasaray, having directly contributed to 26 goals this season, including 19 goals and seven assists.

Osimhen’s injury underscores a challenging period for both club and country, with fans eagerly awaiting updates on his recovery and potential return to action in the coming weeks.
