Rising Nollywood star and AMVCA Trailblazer awardee, Teniola Aladese, has sparked conversations in the entertainment industry after revealing her decision to steer clear of romantic relationships with her male acting colleagues.

Speaking on the popular I Said What I Said podcast, Aladese, known for her breakout role in the hit series Jemeji, described dating in Lagos as “a very big mess” and “stressful,” despite having avoided particularly disastrous first-date experiences.

The actress was candid about her personal boundaries within the film industry. While open to dating professionals in the “upper echelons” of production, such as directors and producers, she drew a clear line when it comes to actors. “I don’t want to date an actor. I wouldn’t mind producers or directors, but actors are a no for me,” she said, without elaborating on the specific reasons behind the choice.

Aladese also highlighted the “audacity” of men on social media, noting that her direct messages (DMs) are often flooded with suitors. She added that while many initial dates go well, her high standards frequently prevent a second meeting.

Teniola Aladese began her career behind the scenes as a production manager before successfully transitioning to acting. Her trajectory hit a significant milestone in 2022 when she received the prestigious Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), solidifying her status as one of Nollywood’s most promising talents.

Her remarks come amid broader conversations in the industry about relationships, professional boundaries, and the pressures faced by actors navigating both fame and personal life.
