A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has issued an order restraining the directors of Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, operators of ShopRite in Nigeria, from disposing of company shares or assets pending the settlement of an outstanding judgment debt.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, also compels the company’s directors to fully disclose all movable and immovable assets to the judgment creditor. The directive follows an ex parte application filed on November 21, 2025, in connection with a consent judgment earlier entered on July 22, 2025.

Counsel to the judgment creditor, Tobenna Nnamani, had urged the court to strengthen enforcement by granting garnishee orders nisi. These orders seek to attach funds belonging to the judgment debtor held across several financial institutions, effectively restricting access to such accounts until the debt is resolved.

In addition to the court’s ruling, the creditor’s legal team has formally requested detailed disclosure of the company’s assets from its directors, including Jide Ogundare. Among the assets listed are the company’s distribution centre in Ajao, Lagos, as well as its trademarks and other key holdings.

The case has been adjourned until May 7, 2026, when proceedings are expected to continue, potentially shaping the next phase of enforcement actions against the retail chain.
