Media personality Robert Ekpo has rejected a cease-and-desist notice issued by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, describing her demand for N100 million in damages as excessive, unfounded, and premature.
Ekpo’s response, issued on Thursday through TAP Legal Services, was made public via Instagram a day after Lambe’s legal team released their notice. The reply, dated April 23 and signed by lawyer M. M. Obono, was addressed to Chinedu Nwaneli of Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation.
In the letter, Ekpo “categorically” denied the allegations against him and objected to his statements being labelled false, malicious, or defamatory. His legal team maintained that his comments were grounded in personal experiences and information he reasonably believes to be true, stressing that there was no intent to harm Lambe’s reputation.
They argued that the dispute stems from what they described as a “complex interpersonal relationship,” warning against selective presentation of facts to create a misleading narrative.
The response also faulted the N100 million damages claim as excessive and criticised the three-day ultimatum issued by Lambe’s lawyers as unreasonable, particularly in a matter involving contested facts.
Ekpo’s lawyers further stated that he possesses documentary and testimonial evidence—including communications and records of interactions—that contradict several of Lambe’s claims. According to the letter, these materials will be presented “at the appropriate time and forum.”
They also signalled the possibility of counterclaims, noting that Ekpo is prepared to defend any legal action and may pursue claims of harassment, intimidation, and reputational damage arising from what they described as false or exaggerated accusations.
In addition, the letter suggested that Lambe’s notice contains admissions supportive of Ekpo’s position, adding that it may be tendered as evidence in a petition to United States authorities, including the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Despite the hardline stance, Ekpo’s legal team said he remains open to a lawful and structured resolution but would not be pressured into concessions.
The dispute escalated following Ekpo’s appearance on The Honest Bunch, where he made a series of allegations about Lambe, including claims about contraceptive use, alleged misrepresentation of a medical trip to Miami, and financial strain during their time abroad. He also claimed to have discovered that she remarried in Texas after their 11-year relationship.
Lambe’s legal representatives have since countered those claims, stating that the couple’s traditional marriage had already been dissolved with family consent before May 11, 2025. They added that no valid marriage existed at the time of the podcast recording and said Lambe holds financial, medical, and communication records that contradict Ekpo’s assertions.
The back-and-forth signals a potentially protracted legal battle, with both parties standing firm and preparing to present their evidence if the matter proceeds to court.
