The organisers of MasterChef Nigeria have officially revealed the 10 home cooks set to compete in the inaugural edition of the culinary reality show, which premieres on Sunday, 26 April at 7:00 pm on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family.

Positioned as a local adaptation of the globally renowned MasterChef franchise, the competition offers a grand prize of N73 million and is expected to bring intense culinary challenges, personal storytelling, and high-stakes kitchen drama to Nigerian television.

According to the organisers, the show represents a historic moment for local entertainment, as this first cohort of contestants becomes the pioneer group competing for the MasterChef Nigeria title. They described the programme as one designed to showcase both culinary excellence and Nigeria’s diverse food culture.

The 10 selected contestants come from different parts of the country and reflect a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds. They include:

The organisers emphasised that the contestants represent a blend of professions, life experiences, and culinary influences drawn from across Nigeria, describing them as a reflection of the country’s cultural and gastronomic diversity.

Beyond cooking ability, the competition is expected to test resilience, creativity, and composure under pressure. Contestants will face a series of demanding challenges designed to push their technical skills while also evaluating their ability to innovate and perform in a high-pressure environment.

As described by the organisers, the participants will be required to “step into the iconic MasterChef kitchen” and navigate tasks that test not only their culinary knowledge but also their adaptability and determination.

Judging duties will be handled by Chef Eros and Chef Stone, who will evaluate dishes based on creativity, presentation, and technical execution.

Produced by Primedia Group, the show is supported by several major sponsors, including Power Oil, Indomie, Dano Milk, Malta Guinness, Sonia Tomato, Kiara Rice, and Golden Penny products, underscoring its strong commercial backing.

The series will run for 13 episodes, airing weekly on Sundays, with additional repeat broadcasts scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays. Organisers say the show is designed to combine storytelling and culinary artistry, positioning it as a new benchmark for food-focused entertainment in Nigeria.
