The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has directed DJs both in Nigeria and abroad to remove Burna Boy’s songs from their playlists, following reports of a physical altercation between the singer and Disc Jockey Michael Babatunde Adeyinka, professionally known as DJ Tunez, at a private Lagos event.
Eyewitnesses claim the incident occurred inside a nightclub, where a disagreement reportedly escalated into a confrontation involving several individuals. DJ Tunez is said to have been assaulted during the altercation, according to accounts circulating on social media.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday, the NDJ expressed full support for DJ Tunez, emphasizing solidarity among DJs and a commitment to professionalism within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The association’s statement highlighted principles of equality and human rights, urging DJs to reject discrimination of any kind based on skin color, religion, background, or gender. “No one is born hating another person… People can learn to love as naturally as they learn to hate,” the statement read.
The NDJ underscored its mission to protect its members, calling on the broader DJ community to foster tolerance, freedom, and equality. “We cannot all succeed when half of us are being held back,” the statement added.
The temporary ban on Burna Boy’s music will remain in effect until a full investigation into the incident is completed. The association urged DJs nationwide to remain vigilant and professional when interacting with artists during events.
As of this report, Burna Boy’s management team has not issued an official response regarding the alleged incident or the temporary ban.
