A major highlight of the 3rd Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW 2026) in Kaduna was the induction of the President of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN), Dr. Bola Joko Bayo-Ajayi, as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). The ceremony, held on Thursday, April 23, brought together top professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders in a celebration of excellence, collaboration, and evolving standards in Nigeria’s communication ecosystem.

The event, staged in the historic city of Kaduna, underscored the growing alignment between marketing and public relations as complementary disciplines shaping brand perception, trust, and stakeholder engagement. Dr. Bayo-Ajayi’s elevation to Fellowship status marks a significant milestone in her professional journey and highlights her contributions to advancing marketing practice in Nigeria.

Reflecting on the experience, she described the ceremony as both inspiring and deeply impactful, praising its organization and the high standards associated with the fellowship process. According to her, the induction was not just ceremonial but symbolic of the increasing importance of professionalism and integrity within the industry. She noted that the quality of the proceedings and the significance attached to the honour speak volumes about the role of public relations in national development.

Beyond the recognition, Dr. Bayo-Ajayi used the platform to advocate for stronger collaboration across professional boundaries. She emphasized that despite the existence of specialized fields within marketing and communications, all practitioners ultimately operate within a shared ecosystem. In her view, sustained progress depends on unity, shared purpose, and cross-sector engagement.

Her participation at the event also reflects the strategic partnership between NIMN and NIPR, anchored by a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at fostering mutual growth. She explained that the agreement covers multiple areas of cooperation, including capacity building, standardization, and the continuous elevation of professional practice in both fields.

The ceremony featured a distinguished lineup of speakers and inductees. NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, described the institute as a global leader in reputation management, noting that its frameworks rank among the best worldwide. He added that the newly inducted fellows were selected through a rigorous process aligned with international best practices, reinforcing the credibility of the institution.

Also inducted were prominent public figures, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and the Minister of State for Works, Hon. Bello Goronyo. In his remarks, Kalu charged the new fellows to deploy their expertise in tackling misinformation and strengthening public trust, stressing the need for institutions that communicate transparently and serve with sincerity.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, was equally honoured with a fellowship and named the World PR Forum Governance Ambassador, further elevating the profile of the event.

With Nigeria set to host the World Public Relations Forum in Abuja later this year, the induction of accomplished professionals such as Dr. Bayo-Ajayi signals a forward-looking shift toward interdisciplinary excellence. It reflects a broader commitment within the industry to collaboration, innovation, and the strengthening of reputation management as a cornerstone of national development.
