Key plans for the future of the Academy Awards have been unveiled, with organizers confirming dates for both the 99th ceremony and the historic 100th edition.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that the 99th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, followed by the 100th Oscars on Sunday, March 5, 2028. Both ceremonies will air live at 7 p.m. ET on ABC and be broadcast in more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

These events will mark the final years of the Oscars’ long-standing broadcast partnership with ABC before the ceremony transitions to a new distribution arrangement with YouTube. Additionally, the Academy confirmed a future venue change, with the awards set to move from the Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater beginning in 2029, where the show will remain through 2039.

The scheduling places the Oscars within a busy early-year lineup for ABC. In 2027, the network will also debut as the new home of the Grammy Awards on February 7, following a major deal that ends a decades-long run on CBS. Just days later, ABC will broadcast Super Bowl LXI on February 14—its first time airing the NFL championship game since 2006.

Recent viewership data highlights shifting audience trends for the awards show. The latest ceremony drew 17.86 million viewers across ABC and Hulu, a 9% drop from the previous year’s 19.7 million, which had been the highest in five years. The most recent Best Picture winner, One Battle After Another directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, led the night.

Looking ahead, the upcoming awards seasons are already generating buzz. High-profile contenders include Project Hail Mary starring Ryan Gosling, Dune: Part Three featuring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, and Digger starring Tom Cruise.

No hosts have yet been announced for either the 99th or 100th ceremonies.
