The Akowonjo axis of Lagos witnessed a surge of spiritual energy on Saturday night as thousands gathered for the ongoing Akowonjo for Christ Crusade, headlined by celebrated gospel singer Tope Alabi.

Held within the Pertinence Group premises in Egbeda, the open-air event transformed into a vibrant arena of worship as Alabi led attendees through an evening of praise, music, and reflection. Her performance, marked by renditions of popular gospel songs, drew visible emotional responses from the crowd, many of whom sang along, danced, and expressed deep spiritual devotion.

A call to true worship

Amid the music, Alabi delivered a strong message on the essence of Christian faith, stressing that worship must be rooted in genuine spiritual commitment.

She urged participants to embrace salvation, noting that outward expressions of praise hold little meaning without a personal relationship with Christ. Her altar call saw many attendees step forward, marking one of the night’s most defining moments.

Messages of faith and expectation

The crusade, organised by The Great Commission Christian Network and The Grace Rock Church, also featured sermons from prominent clerics who reinforced themes of faith, healing, and divine intervention.

Funso Popoola of The Grace Rock Church encouraged worshippers to remain expectant, drawing from the biblical account of healing at the Pool of Bethesda. He reminded the congregation that divine provision remains accessible, urging them to approach the gathering with sincerity and prayer.

Similarly, Andy Ikehide, President of The Great Commission Christian Network, led intense prayer sessions centred on the theme “Arise, for your light has come.” Referencing the deliverance of Peter in the Bible, he declared messages of hope, protection, and breakthrough over attendees.

Beyond worship: community impact

Beyond the spiritual experience, the crusade incorporated outreach initiatives aimed at supporting the local community. Organisers provided free medical services—including blood pressure and malaria checks—and distributed food items such as garri and rice to residents.

These efforts complemented the event’s broader mission of combining spiritual upliftment with tangible community support.

A three-day gathering concludes

The Akowonjo for Christ Crusade, which began on April 10, is set to conclude on April 12, 2026. Hosted at the Pertinence Group premises behind NEPA Filling Station along Tinuola Close, Animashaun Bus Stop, the event has drawn significant participation across its three-day run.

For many attendees, the combination of worship, teaching, and outreach has made the crusade a memorable spiritual encounter—one marked not only by music and messages, but by moments of personal transformation.
