Fresh off a commanding win inside the ring, Nigerian entertainer Carter Efe wasted no time defining his own identity—firmly distancing himself from comparisons to heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The moment came during his post-fight interview at the Chaos in the Ring 4 event held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos, where he had just secured a unanimous decision victory over street-hop artiste Habeeb Badmus, popularly known as Portable.

When a fan shouted Anthony Joshua’s name from the crowd, Efe responded sharply, drawing cheers: “Who called me Anthony Joshua? My name is Carter Mayweather.”

Dominant Performance Seals Victory

Efe’s confidence was backed by his performance. Over three rounds, he controlled the bout from start to finish, leaving little doubt in the judges’ minds. All three officials scored the fight 27–30 in his favour, ending Portable’s run as celebrity boxing champion.

Reflecting on the fight, Efe said: “The fight was so easy. By the first round, I had made his face swell up. By the second round, he was already shaking. Third round, he fell.”

The comedian also embraced comparisons to Floyd Mayweather Jr., widely regarded as one of boxing’s greatest defensive fighters, suggesting his style in the ring mirrored the legendary American.

Portable’s Reign Ends After High-Profile Wins

Portable entered the bout with momentum, having defeated Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington in previous celebrity matches to claim two belts. He had promised to make Efe his third consecutive victim—but the script flipped decisively.

Victory Sparks Bigger Ambitions

Buoyed by the win, Efe set his sights beyond Nigeria, hinting at international ambitions. “I am feeling like an international world star,” he said, before adding: “I just believed in God. If you believe in God, anything can happen. I want to try this again in an international way. I know we are going to get there one day.”

When asked about a possible rematch with Portable, he remained undecided: “I will think about it. Let me go and rest first.”

N50 Million Reward and Ringside Drama

The night also came with a significant financial reward. Businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo confirmed he would fulfill a pre-fight promise of N50 million to Efe.

“You know we put our money where our mouth is, and so congratulations Carter on your win. N50 million for you,” he announced.

Portable Cries Foul, Demands Payment

In contrast, Portable reacted angrily to the result. Speaking via Instagram Live after the fight, he rejected the judges’ decision and accused Efe of unfair tactics.

“I was robbed. Carter Efe was not professional enough. He was strangling with his long hands and height. I threw him many punches, why didn’t you people count them?” he said, adding, “Any blow that I threw to him ought to count even if it meets him on the shoulder or hand.”

He also demanded payment from event organisers, claiming he was owed about N200 million in streaming revenue: “Just give me my money before I cause trouble.”

Personal Joy Amid Defeat

Despite his frustration, Portable struck a more reflective tone when speaking about a personal milestone. “My wife just gave birth to a bouncing baby boy. I value that more than a belt. You can buy the belt but not my child,” he said.

A Night That Blended Sport and Showbiz

The Chaos in the Ring event once again highlighted the growing appeal of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, where entertainment, rivalry, and spectacle collide. For Carter Efe, the victory marks a defining moment—one that not only earned him a title but also a new self-styled identity: “Carter Mayweather.”
