The Dangote Group has firmly rejected reports suggesting a fallout between its President, Aliko Dangote, and Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, describing the claims as false and malicious.

In a statement released Sunday and signed by Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, the company dismissed a viral publication alleging that Dangote had publicly explained distancing himself from Elumelu. According to the group, no such remarks were ever made.

“The Dangote Group has become aware of a publication titled ‘Aliko Dangote Speaks Out on Why He Distanced Himself from Tony Elumelu’, which is false, malicious, and baseless. At no time did the President or the Group make such statements or express such sentiments.”

Refinery Financing Claims Described as Fabricated

The company also pushed back against assertions that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals was funded through personal loans from business associates. It described the narrative as inaccurate and misleading.

“As a matter of principle, Aliko Dangote neither finances his projects through personal borrowing from friends nor engages in lending arrangements of that nature. Any individual making such claims should provide verifiable evidence to substantiate them.”

The viral post had alleged that during a funding shortfall in 2021, Dangote approached prominent figures such as Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Mike Adenuga, and Elumelu for financial assistance—claims the group has now categorically denied.

Relationship With Elumelu Remains Cordial

Addressing the rumored rift directly, the Dangote Group emphasized that there is no strain between Dangote and Elumelu, maintaining that both business leaders continue to share a longstanding and cordial relationship.

The clarification comes after widespread circulation of the disputed post, which suggested tensions arose following an alleged failed financial request tied to the refinery project.

Warning Over Fake Content and Identity Misuse

Beyond the immediate claims, the company expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of misinformation involving Dangote’s identity—particularly the use of AI-generated content.

“Furthermore, the group notes with concern a rising pattern of fabricated statements and the unauthorised use of Aliko Dangote’s name, likeness, and image in AI-generated advertisements and other misleading content. These actions amount to reputational harm and potential fraud.”

The group warned individuals and platforms spreading false information to desist, noting it is prepared to pursue legal action to protect its reputation.

Commitment to Integrity and Development

Reaffirming its stance, the Dangote Group stressed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and its broader role in driving industrial growth across Africa. It highlighted ongoing efforts toward economic self-sufficiency and sustainable development as central to its mission.
