Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has stirred fresh buzz in Nigeria’s entertainment scene after publicly challenging fellow actress Funke Akindele to a celebrity boxing match.
The call-out came just hours after Nigerian streamer Carter Efe defeated street-pop artiste Portable in a widely talked-about celebrity boxing bout. The victory earned Carter Efe a ₦50 million prize, further fueling interest in celebrity fight events across the country.
“Let’s Get on the Boxing Ring” — Badmus Throws the Challenge
In a now-viral Instagram post, Badmus directly invited Akindele to step into the ring, framing the proposal as both entertainment and a money-making opportunity.
“Funke Akindele, let’s get on the boxing ring. It’s about time. Soso, E-Money, let’s get to it. No time. Money has to be made,” she wrote.
Her message also called on prominent entertainment figures to back the proposed fight financially.
Badmus specifically mentioned talent manager Soso Soberekon and businessman E-Money as potential sponsors.
Both figures were actively involved in the recent Carter Efe vs Portable match. Ahead of the fight, Soberekon reportedly gave ₦40 million each to both fighters, while E-Money further rewarded Carter Efe after his win.
The challenge highlights the growing popularity of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, where entertainment, social media influence, and prize money are increasingly merging into a new form of spectacle.
What was once seen as novelty content is quickly evolving into a lucrative and attention-grabbing segment of the entertainment industry, drawing participation from musicians, comedians, and now film stars.
Will Akindele Respond?
As of now, Funke Akindele has not publicly responded to the challenge. However, the call-out has already sparked conversations among fans, with many debating whether the proposed bout will materialise or remain part of ongoing social media hype.
With financial incentives, celebrity backing, and rising audience interest, the prospect of another high-profile celebrity boxing match may depend largely on whether Akindele chooses to step into the ring.
