Nollywood actress Opeyemi Aiyeola has appealed to influential Nigerians, including entertainers and traditional rulers, to speak out against the growing insecurity in Oyo State and other parts of Yoruba land.

In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, Aiyeola called on public figures with strong platforms, influence and political connections to use their voices to draw attention to the increasing wave of attacks and kidnappings affecting communities in the region.

The actress warned that the worsening security situation should not be ignored because of ongoing political activities and preparations ahead of elections, stressing that the crisis is becoming dangerously close to home.

Aiyeola specifically mentioned prominent traditional rulers and celebrities in her appeal, including the Ooni of Ife, the Olubadan, Lagos monarchs, Lege Miami, Eniola Badmus, Laide Bakare, Desmond Elliot, Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

According to her, residents across affected communities are increasingly living in fear and need influential voices to amplify the situation.

“This video is just to call the attention of well-influential colleagues with the platform, the connection and the voice, to please lend a voice to the masses,” Aiyeola said.

She added that while many public figures may currently be focused on political activities, the security challenges facing residents should not be overlooked.

“We cannot pretend like we do not see what is happening. It is also very sad and unfortunate that this is knocking on our doors. This is closer to home than expected. Oyo State is closer to home. Please lend your platform, lend your voices.”

The actress clarified that her appeal was not intended to criticize anyone personally but to encourage those with influence to raise awareness and support efforts toward addressing the crisis.

Her comments come shortly after reports of gunmen attacking schools in the Ahoro Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where pupils, students and teachers were reportedly kidnapped from multiple institutions.

The incident has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of southwestern Nigeria, with many residents calling for urgent intervention from security agencies and government authorities.
