Nigerian street-pop artiste Portable narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal accident on Thursday night in Ogun State, just hours before a major family celebration planned for his newborn son.

The incident reportedly occurred while the singer was en route in preparation for his child’s naming ceremony when his vehicle developed a sudden brake failure. In an attempt to avoid a more devastating collision, Portable said he swerved off the road and ended up driving into a ditch.

He later took to his Instagram story in a trending video, visibly shaken but grateful for his survival, recounting the terrifying moment in his own words:

“My fans, join me to appreciate God. I was just driving out this evening when the accident happened.

“Nothing do me oo, I came out unhurt . I suddenly realized that the car had failed brake. My people have arrived here (at the scene of the incident) I thank God they are not here to carry my corpse.

“I’ve already bought two cows for my son’s naming ceremony. Thank God that the accident didn’t happen when trailer was passing on the road.”

The crash adds an unexpected twist to what was already a busy week for the singer, who recently welcomed a newborn son with his partner, Bewaji. In celebration of the new arrival, Portable had distributed free Ankara aso ebi outfits to fans and well-wishers ahead of the naming ceremony.

The birth of the child came during an intense period in the entertainer’s public life, coinciding with his boxing appearance against social media personality Carter Efe on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Despite the shock of the accident, the singer’s tone in the video reflected relief and gratitude, with his focus quickly shifting back to thanksgiving and the planned family celebration that he says he is still determined to hold.
