Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has opened up about his relationship with his first daughter, Danielle, addressing recent social media reactions surrounding their family dynamic.
The actor, who has frequently faced public scrutiny over his personal life and marriage decisions, spoke during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, where he explained that he still shares a close relationship with his 21-year-old daughter despite public assumptions online.
Yul’s comments come after some social media users accused him of paying more attention to the children from his second marriage to Judy Austin while allegedly ignoring Danielle’s graduation celebration.
Responding to the criticism, the actor said he understands that his daughter may not fully comprehend his choices at her current age, comparing the situation to his own relationship with his father when he was younger.
“We are very close. She is just 21, I don’t expect her to understand me. When I was 21, I didn’t understand my father,” he said.
Yul also noted that it is common for children to naturally feel more emotionally connected to their mothers during family disagreements or complicated situations.
“There will be a tilt towards her mother; it is a normal thing,” he added.
The actor’s family life has remained a major topic of discussion online since news of his marriage to Judy Austin became public. The development generated widespread reactions, particularly because of his long-standing marriage to May Edochie, Danielle’s mother.
Despite ongoing public conversations, Yul maintained during the interview that his relationship with his daughter remains intact and that he believes understanding often comes with maturity and time.
His remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some supporters praising his honesty while others continued to question his handling of family matters in the public eye.
