The ESPY Awards are gearing up for another edition in 2026, with organizers confirming a fresh face will take over hosting duties as the show returns to its longtime home in New York City.

Stepping into the spotlight this year is comedian Marcello Hernández, who will front the star-studded ceremony celebrating the biggest moments and achievements in sports. He replaces last year’s host, fellow comedian Shane Gillis, who presented the 2025 edition in Los Angeles.

For Hernández, the opportunity marks a significant career moment. “It is an honor, and frankly feels crazy to be hosting the ESPYS this year in New York,” he said in a statement released Wednesday. “I'm sure the energy is going to be great.”

ESPN describes Hernández as an “avid sports fan,” noting his personal background as a former collegiate soccer player at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio—an experience that adds a layer of authenticity to his connection with the sporting world.

Return to a Historic ESPYS Setting

This year’s ceremony also carries symbolic weight as it heads back to New York City, where the ESPYS first launched in 1993 at Madison Square Garden. The 2026 edition will be held on Wednesday, July 15 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, continuing the tradition of pairing sports excellence with a high-profile entertainment setting.

Craig Lazarus, executive producer of the ESPYS, praised the choice of host and emphasized Hernández’s energy and connection to both sports and the city.

“Marcello is one of the most electric, young comedians today. His genuine enthusiasm for sports and his ties to New York City make him a natural fit to host this year's ESPYS,” Lazarus said. “We are excited to partner with him to celebrate the best moments in sports and look forward to the fresh take he'll bring to the show.”

Broadcast and Streaming Details

The 2026 ESPYS will air live at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, with simultaneous streaming available via the ESPN app. Viewers will also be able to catch the ceremony on Disney+, Hulu, and ABC Video on Demand beginning July 16, expanding access to one of sports entertainment’s most-watched annual events.

With a new host, a return to New York, and the usual mix of sports highlights and celebrity appearances, anticipation is already building for what promises to be another memorable ESPYS night.
