The Rotterdam club announced the decision on Sunday, revealing that the team will head into the 2026/27 campaign under a new manager as part of a strategic move aimed at improving performances and reversing a decline in results.
In a brief statement posted on the club's official X account, Feyenoord said: “Feyenoord will start the 2026-2027 season with a new head coach. The club would like to thank Robin van Persie for everything he gave during his time as head coach.”
End of the Road for Club Legend
Van Persie, one of the most celebrated players in Feyenoord's history, returned to his boyhood club as head coach in February 2025 after building his reputation within the club's youth setup. He signed a contract that was initially scheduled to run until 2027.
His departure comes just months after guiding Feyenoord to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie, a result that secured direct qualification for the UEFA Champions League and guaranteed the club a place among Europe's elite next season.

Explaining the decision, newly appointed technical director Devy Rigaux acknowledged Van Persie's commitment and contribution but said an extensive review of the season prompted the club to seek a fresh direction.
“Robin van Persie has given everything for the club over the past 1.5 years. He certainly deserves credit for concluding a difficult season with a final second-place finish. This secured Champions League football, which is of course very important,” Rigaux said.
The Feyenoord official revealed that the club's leadership carried out a comprehensive internal assessment before reaching its decision.
“We conducted a thorough internal analysis. In this, we took into account, among other things, the development of the style of play and the declining trend in terms of points total, both in Europe and in the Eredivisie. The conclusion was that it is better to start the next season with a new head coach.”
Success Mixed With Frustration
Although Feyenoord finished as runners-up in the Dutch top flight, the campaign was far from flawless. The club ended the season 19 points behind champions PSV Eindhoven, highlighting the gap that still exists between the two sides.
The team also struggled for consistency throughout the season, producing impressive performances at times but failing to maintain the level required to mount a sustained title challenge.
