The attack reportedly took place on Pankhurst Avenue in the Silvertown area of East London, where emergency services were called shortly before 9 a.m. Paramedics attempted to save the 35-year-old musician at the scene, but he was later pronounced dead despite their efforts.
Police in the United Kingdom have since launched a full murder investigation. Officers from the Specialist Crime Command are leading inquiries as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing. “It is with overwhelming sadness that we confirm that Mark ‘Yinka’ Orabiyi, professionally known as Talay Riley, passed away yesterday morning,” the statement said.
They described him not only as an accomplished songwriter but as a widely respected creative figure in the global music industry.
“Talay will fondly be remembered by those who knew him publicly for his incredible talent as a Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling songwriter and artist.
“For those that knew and loved him personally, it is his humour, generous spirit and unmistakable presence that will be missed the most,” the statement added.

Riley built a respected reputation behind the scenes as a songwriter, contributing to several internationally successful records. Among his most notable credits was “Lights On,” performed by H.E.R. on her Grammy-winning self-titled project.
