The vibrant spirit of culture, tradition, and community came alive once again as thousands converged on the historic town of Ijebu-Ode for the 2026 edition of Ojude Oba, one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural festivals.
Held this year under the theme, “Celebrating the Legacy of Oba Sikiru Adetona,” the annual gathering delivered its trademark blend of pageantry, heritage, and social connection, drawing indigenes, visitors, and cultural enthusiasts from across the country and beyond.
From the early hours of the day, the festival grounds were awash with colour as Regberegbe age-grade groups arrived in meticulously coordinated aso-oke ensembles, proudly showcasing the rich traditions that have defined Ojude Oba for generations. The famous Balogun families, renowned for their horse-riding displays, once again captivated spectators with grand entrances marked by elegance, confidence, and cultural pride.
Across the venue, families reunited under decorated canopies, friends exchanged warm greetings, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement. Cameras captured memorable moments while traditional music, laughter, and animated conversations echoed through the ancient city, reinforcing the festival’s enduring role as a symbol of homecoming for the Ijebu people.
Beyond the fashion statements and spectacular displays, Ojude Oba remains a powerful celebration of identity and continuity. It is a gathering where generations meet on common ground—where elders reconnect with lifelong friends, young people embrace customs passed down through the years, and families create new memories while honouring cherished traditions.
Amid these moments of connection and celebration, Maltina emerged as a familiar companion throughout the festivities. Under the warm Ijebu sun, chilled bottles of the nourishing malt drink became a refreshing feature of the day, enjoyed during conversations, shared among family members, and savoured between the festival’s numerous attractions and horse-riding exhibitions.
The brand's presence was seamlessly integrated into the festival experience, offering attendees welcoming spaces to relax, refresh, and immerse themselves in the celebration. Rather than standing apart from the festivities, Maltina became part of the shared experiences that define Ojude Oba—moments of joy, togetherness, and cultural pride.
Speaking on the brand’s participation, Elohor Olumide-Awe, Head, Non-Alcoholic Portfolio, Nigerian Breweries Plc, highlighted the strong connection between the values of the festival and those of the Maltina brand.
"Maltina has always been a brand rooted in nourishment, happiness, and shared family moments, which is why Ojude Oba was such a natural fit for us. The festival represents community, pride, and cultural continuity, and we were proud to be part of an experience that brings people together in such a meaningful way," she said.
As the celebrations draw to a close and the echoes of drums, laughter, and horse hooves gradually fade across Ijebu-Ode, attendees are left with lasting memories of a festival that continues to unite people through culture and tradition. For many, those memories will also include the refreshing moments shared with Maltina, a brand that found its place within one of Nigeria’s most treasured cultural gatherings.
Until the next edition, Ojude Oba remains a powerful reminder that heritage is best preserved when it is celebrated together.
