Appearing together on stage at the Peacock Theater, the duo reflected on the overwhelming audience support that has propelled Michael into the history books as the highest-grossing biopic of all time.
Jackson, who portrays his legendary uncle Michael Jackson in the critically acclaimed film, expressed gratitude to fans for embracing the project and making it a global box office phenomenon.
“We’re so grateful for the love you all showed to our movie,” Jackson said. “You guys have the theaters packed. We’re truly so humbled. Your support means the world to the Jackson family.”
The heartfelt message drew loud applause from the audience before Nia Long, who plays Michael's mother, Katherine Jackson, reflected on the significance of her role and praised Jackson's performance.
“Portraying Katherine Jackson reminded me that grace is quiet and still, and tonight we honor that. Jaafar, it was an honor watching you transform into your uncle right before our eyes,” Long said.
Following their remarks, the pair presented the Best Male R&B/Pop Artist award, which was won by Leon Thomas.
