A major diversification move is reshaping the business direction of Sujimoto Group as the luxury real estate and construction company steps into Nigeria’s agro-industrial space with the launch of a new food manufacturing initiative aimed at supporting food security and boosting domestic production.

The company has officially unveiled Sujimoto Foods, marking its entry into large-scale food processing and manufacturing. As part of the expansion, it has also entered into a strategic partnership with Chinese equipment manufacturer Cotco Food Machinery OEM to design and deploy a modern food processing system in Nigeria.

According to the company, the ambition behind the project is not modest. It is structured to build an integrated food production network capable of processing up to one million tonnes of food products annually across different segments of the value chain.

“State-of-the-art” ambition and industrial-scale production target

Speaking on the development, the Group Managing Director of Sujimoto Group, Dr. Sijibomi Ogundele, said the company intends to transfer the same discipline and standards that defined its luxury property developments into the food industry.

“We are embarking on the establishment of a state-of-the-art food manufacturing operation, including about one million tonnes within the food value chain annually. Our goal is to deliver high-quality food products to millions of Nigerians while contributing meaningfully to national food security, industrial growth and economic development,” he said.

The statement reflects a broader strategy aimed at positioning Sujimoto not just as a property developer, but as an industrial player seeking relevance in one of Nigeria’s most critical economic sectors.

Responding to Nigeria’s food security pressures

The expansion comes at a time when Nigeria’s food system is under sustained pressure. A combination of inflation, supply chain disruptions, and rapid population growth has intensified concerns about affordability and availability of essential food items.

Sujimoto Foods is designed to tap into Nigeria’s estimated consumer base of over 240 million people, with a focus on strengthening local processing capacity and reducing inefficiencies in the food distribution chain. The company believes that improving processing infrastructure will play a key role in reducing post-harvest losses and stabilizing food supply.

Balancing diversification with core real estate ambitions

Despite its entry into agro-processing, Sujimoto Group emphasized that real estate remains central to its long-term business strategy. The company is maintaining momentum in its property portfolio while branching into industrial-scale food production.

It noted that the announcement follows the completion of Lucrezia by Sujimoto, a luxury residential project, while construction continues on LeonardBySujimoto, a planned 60-storey skyscraper that is expected to become one of Africa’s landmark developments in the luxury property space.

The company also acknowledged its clients and business partners for their continued support, describing them as a key foundation for its ability to expand across multiple sectors. This backing, it said, has helped sustain its growth trajectory in both real estate and its newly launched food manufacturing venture.
