Nigeria's cinema industry has recorded another major milestone as Call of My Life continues its remarkable run at the box office, emerging as the highest-grossing Nigerian film of 2026 after raking in ₦817.6 million in ticket sales.
The romantic comedy is now on course to become the first Nollywood film released outside the traditional December blockbuster season to cross the ₦1 billion mark, a feat that would further redefine commercial success in Nigeria's film industry.
Produced by Blessing Uzzi, directed by Dammy Twitch, and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the film overtook the year's previous box office leader, Michael—the Michael Jackson biopic—after spending 11 weeks in cinemas.
Its impressive performance has seen it break multiple records, including becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026, the biggest BluHouse Studios production, the highest-grossing romantic comedy, the highest-earning May release, and the top-performing film of the year.
The achievement is particularly significant because Call of My Life premiered on May 15, a period that has traditionally delivered weaker box office returns compared to the lucrative Christmas and New Year holiday season, when most major Nigerian films are released.
Despite launching outside the festive window, the movie opened with a strong ₦76.9 million and maintained steady growth in earnings over the following weeks. The sustained momentum has largely been driven by positive audience reception and strong word-of-mouth recommendations.
The film has also recorded more than 123,000 cinema admissions, making it the most-watched theatrical release in Nigeria for 2026 so far. The figure underscores growing audience confidence in locally produced stories, even outside peak holiday periods.
Starring Uzoamaka Power, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Zubby Michael, and Broda Shaggi, Call of My Life blends romance and comedy in a production that has resonated strongly with cinema-goers across the country.
The movie's success is widely seen as another indicator of Nollywood's growing commercial strength. It demonstrates that well-produced local films can achieve blockbuster status beyond the conventional December release window, providing fresh optimism for filmmakers, distributors, and cinema operators seeking consistent box office performance throughout the year.
With earnings already at ₦817.6 million, industry observers will be watching closely to see whether Call of My Life can sustain its momentum and become the first Nigerian film released outside the festive season to reach the coveted ₦1 billion box office milestone.
