Cornerstone Insurance Plc has reinforced its commitment to community development and environmental sustainability with the donation of a solar-powered borehole to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja, expanding access to clean and reliable water for the agency.
The project, executed through the Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation (CIPLCF), reflects the insurer's broader corporate social responsibility agenda, which focuses on improving lives through investments in education, healthcare and safety while supporting sustainable development initiatives across Nigeria.
According to the company, the recently commissioned borehole aligns with its vision of protecting lives and property by promoting healthier communities and environmentally sustainable solutions. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and Goal 13 on Climate Action.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Stephen Alangbo, represented by the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Cordelia Ekeocha, said the company's interventions are designed to deliver long-term benefits to host communities.
"We believe that all our initiatives should have a lasting impact on the lives of the recipients. The CIPLCF is committed to promoting community support, education, and health and safety, this borehole project is significant," he said.
Alangbo noted that education, health and safety remain the three strategic pillars guiding the foundation's community development programmes, with projects carefully selected to create lasting social impact and improve the quality of life of beneficiaries.
Receiving the project on behalf of the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), the Director of Technical Services, DCG Ambrose Umoru, expressed appreciation to the foundation for the intervention.
Umoru described the borehole as a valuable addition to the agency's infrastructure, noting that it would provide dependable access to clean water for personnel and support day-to-day operations at the facility.
The solar-powered system is expected to provide a continuous and sustainable water supply while reducing dependence on the national electricity grid and eliminating recurring fuel costs associated with diesel-powered generators. Beyond improving operational efficiency, the project is also expected to enhance sanitation and hygiene standards within the facility.
Access to clean water remains a critical requirement for law enforcement agencies, particularly in offices, barracks and detention facilities where reliable water supply is essential for public health, sanitation and effective service delivery.
