Veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life, revealing how the death of the mother of his children left him emotionally shattered and forced him to seek a new direction.
The actor shared the painful experience while giving a testimony at a church, where he reflected on his personal struggles, battles with grief, and the spiritual journey that followed the loss.
Anuku disclosed that he and his late partner had plans to get married before her sudden passing, describing her death as one of the most traumatic events he has ever experienced.
According to the actor, losing the woman who gave birth to his son and daughter affected him deeply and changed the course of his life.
“I’ve been through a lot of traumatic situations. First, I lost my baby mama. I wanted to marry her, but she went to the great beyond too soon. She was the mother of my children, my son and my daughter over there,” Anuku said.
Recalling their relationship, the actor described his late partner as someone he was deeply committed to, adding that loyalty and dedication have always been important values in his personal life.
“I remember when I first met her. We were always together. Whenever I’m in a relationship with someone, I’m committed to just that person and no one else. That’s how I’ve always lived my life, whether in Nigeria or abroad,” he added.
Anuku explained that accepting her death was extremely difficult because he never imagined a future without her presence.
“I never believed she would leave so soon, and it hurt me deeply, to my very bones and mind, knowing that I would go to bed without her and never get to cuddle her again,” he said.
The actor revealed that the grief pushed him into a period of withdrawal, as he struggled to cope with the emotional weight of the loss and the challenges that came afterward.
He said he sought solitude and distanced himself from the pressures of everyday life while trying to find peace.
“I probably crossed some boundaries, but I just wanted to be alone, like a hermit, away from the hustle and bustle and burdens of the world. I wanted to become someone I had never been before,” he explained.
The actor also addressed public perceptions surrounding some reports and videos about him that circulated online, saying many people misunderstood the difficult phase he was experiencing.
“A lot of you know me, and I guess you’ve seen a lot of things online about me. But let me tell you something: that wasn’t me. God did it, and He started from here. They came looking for me. God sent strangers, angels, and messengers to look for those He wanted to use to propagate the gospel and win souls for His kingdom. I guess I got lucky. I got on the train, and that’s why I’m here,” Anuku said.
Reflecting on his spiritual transformation, the actor expressed appreciation to God for helping him through his struggles and giving him another opportunity to rebuild his life.
“I want to thank God for choosing a wretched sinner like me to be in His presence and for making the tongues of the wicked cling to the roof of their mouths. I want you all to understand that no one is perfect,” he added.
Anuku, who is a father of two, said seeing his children doing well has brought him happiness and renewed hope despite the challenges he has faced.
“It gives me joy to know that my children are doing well, and I believe I’ll soon rise above all this, step by step. Thank God for His mercy,” he concluded.
The actor’s testimony highlighted his journey through grief, isolation, and personal struggles while emphasizing his belief in faith, healing, and the possibility of a new beginning.
