LAPO Microfinance Bank has received fresh recognition for its commitment to promoting sustainable finance and supporting Nigeria's climate action agenda, earning a Recognition Award from the Lagos State Government for its contributions to climate finance, sustainability and inclusive green financing.

The honour was presented by the Office of the Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy during the Climate Finance Leadership and Recognition Night, the closing event of the Climate Finance Preparedness Clinic (CFPC) 2026. The ceremony brought together policymakers, regulators, development finance institutions, investors, financial institutions, corporate organisations and sustainability professionals to explore innovative funding models capable of accelerating Nigeria's transition to a climate-resilient and low-carbon economy.

The recognition highlights LAPO Microfinance Bank's increasing role in expanding access to climate-focused financial services, particularly for underserved communities, entrepreneurs and small businesses that are often most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Through its inclusive financing model, the bank has continued to provide financial solutions that encourage climate resilience, green enterprise and sustainable economic development.

According to the organisers, the award acknowledges institutions that are making meaningful contributions to strengthening Nigeria's climate finance ecosystem while supporting national efforts to drive environmental sustainability and resilience.

Reacting to the recognition, the bank's Director of Marketing and Communications, Oluremi Akande, described the award as an affirmation of LAPO Microfinance Bank's enduring commitment to embedding sustainability into its operations and expanding financial inclusion across the country.

“This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to building a sustainable and resilient future through inclusive climate finance. We recognise that access to finance is a critical catalyst for individuals, businesses, and communities seeking to adopt sustainable practices and effectively respond to climate change,” Akande said.

He explained that the bank remains focused on developing innovative financial products and strengthening strategic partnerships that support environmental sustainability while creating economic opportunities for vulnerable individuals and businesses.

“At LAPO Microfinance Bank, sustainability is embedded in our purpose of improving lives. We remain committed to supporting green innovation, renewable energy adoption, resource-efficient solutions, and climate-smart enterprises that deliver lasting value for people, businesses, and the environment,” he added.

LAPO Microfinance Bank has continued to position itself as a key player in Nigeria's inclusive finance landscape by integrating environmental sustainability into its operations and financing strategy. Its initiatives are designed to enable individuals and small businesses to embrace climate-smart practices, improve resilience and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The Climate Finance Leadership and Recognition Night celebrated organisations and institutions that have demonstrated leadership in advancing climate finance, sustainability and resilience-building initiatives. The event also underscored the importance of stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors in mobilising investment and innovative financing solutions needed to support Nigeria's climate goals and foster a greener, more sustainable future.
