The Red Devils have been forced to reassess their transfer plans after missing out on several priority midfield targets during the summer transfer window. Elliott Anderson completed a move to Manchester City, while Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali both joined Tottenham Hotspur, leaving United to explore alternative options ahead of the new campaign.
Ndidi has now re-emerged as a leading candidate, with United revisiting an interest that first surfaced last summer when the Nigerian international was eager to leave Leicester City. A transfer failed to materialise at the time, and the midfielder eventually secured a move to Turkish giants Besiktas.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign in the Turkish Super Lig, establishing himself as one of Besiktas' most consistent performers. He has made 31 appearances this season, contributing two goals and one assist while maintaining his reputation as one of the league's most reliable defensive midfielders.
However, uncertainty surrounding his future has increased following a managerial change at the Istanbul club. Reports indicate that Besiktas are prepared to listen to offers for the Nigerian international and have placed an €8 million valuation on the experienced midfielder.
According to Footy Africa, Manchester United are not the only club tracking Ndidi's situation. Hull City are also monitoring the midfielder as they look to strengthen their squad following promotion, while several clubs in the Saudi Pro League are understood to be keeping tabs on the former Leicester City star.
Hull City are reportedly aiming to build a competitive squad capable of securing Premier League survival, following the example of clubs such as Sunderland and Leeds United, who successfully strengthened after earning promotion.
Ndidi spent eight successful years at Leicester City after joining from Belgian side Genk, making well over 200 appearances for the Foxes. During his time at the King Power Stadium, he established himself as one of the Premier League's standout ball-winning midfielders and played a key role in Leicester's FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs.
On the international stage, the Super Eagles captain remains one of Nigeria's most influential players and was part of the national team that secured a podium finish at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.
Should Manchester United complete a deal for Ndidi, he would become only the second Nigerian footballer to play for the club, following former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo, who spent six months on loan at Old Trafford in 2020.
