While international stars such as Isaiah Washington, Vivica Fox, and Kim Basinger have featured in Nollywood productions, a number of Nigerian celebrities have also earned roles in foreign movies and television shows, working alongside renowned actors and filmmakers.
From award-winning veterans to rising stars, these entertainers have contributed to the growing relationship between Nollywood and the global entertainment industry.
1. Olu Jacobs — A Veteran With International Experience
Before Nollywood became globally recognised, Olu Jacobs had already built a strong reputation internationally.
Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, is a veteran Nigerian actor and film executive. He began his acting career by appearing in several British television series and international films.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in England, Jacobs worked with various theatre groups in Britain and featured in several international productions. His film credits include The Dogs of War, The Tomorrow People, The Goodies, and Barlow at Large, among others.
Vanguard described him as one of the “godfathers of Nollywood,” a recognition that reflects his influence and contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
2. Jim Iyke — “And Then There Was You” (2013)
Jim Iyke remains one of Nigeria’s most recognised actors who successfully made the transition into international cinema. The talented actor featured in the Hollywood romantic drama And Then There Was You, where he played the role of “Zuma.”
The movie also featured American actors Garcelle Beauvais and Brian White, giving Iyke the opportunity to share the screen with established Hollywood performers.
Known for his versatility and commanding screen presence, Jim Iyke’s appearance in the film further strengthened his reputation as one of Nollywood’s actors capable of taking on international roles.
3. Emmanuel Igboke — “Flint Strong”
Nigerian actor Emmanuel Igboke featured in the biographical sports drama Flint Strong, a film based on the inspiring journey of Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, the boxer from Flint, Michigan, who became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing.
The film was shot in Los Angeles, California, and explored themes of determination, ambition, and overcoming challenges.
Beyond acting, Igboke has also received recognition in the Nigerian film industry, earning nominations for Best Actor and Best Movie Producer at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.
4. Osas Ighodaro — “Where Children Play” (2015)
Nigerian-American actress and television personality Osas Ighodaro has successfully built a career across both Nollywood and international entertainment platforms.
The actress featured in the 2015 American drama film Where Children Play, where she portrayed the character Nia. She starred alongside Grammy Award-winning singer Macy Gray, Brian White, and Teyonah Parris.

Actor Jimmy Odukoya became part of the international cast of the historical epic The Woman King, starring Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis and British-Nigerian actor John Boyega.
Odukoya played the role of Oba Ade in the 2022 Sony Pictures production, which tells the story of the Agojie, the all-female warrior unit of the Kingdom of Dahomey.
The film was directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and featured actors including Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, and Adrienne Warren.

6. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde — “Hit the Floor” (2013)

After making her Nollywood debut in 1995, Jalade became one of Africa’s biggest film stars, appearing in more than 300 movies.
She has received numerous honours for her achievements, including being named among Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2013.

7. Emmanuella — “Survive or Die” (2018)
Popular child comedian Emmanuella, known for her appearances in Mark Angel Comedy skits, surprised many fans when she ventured into acting.
The young entertainer made her acting debut in the Australian film Survive or Die in 2018, where she delivered a performance that attracted attention from audiences.

8. Stephanie Linus — “Boonville Redemption” (2016)
Award-winning actress and filmmaker Stephanie Linus featured in the American Western epic Boonville Redemption in 2016.
She played Doris, a compassionate woman from the second generation of the slave trade in America whose family roots traced back to Nigeria.
The movie also starred veteran American actors including Pat Boone, Diane Ladd, Edward Asner, Emily Hoffman, Nicholas Neve Shari Rigby, and Richard Tyson.
Stephanie Linus, who is also a director, producer, and screenwriter, has earned several awards and nominations throughout her career, including recognition from the Africa Movie Academy Awards.
In 2011, she received the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) from the Nigerian government for her contributions to Nollywood.
9. Genevieve Nnaji — “Farming” (2018)
Genevieve Nnaji is one of Nollywood’s most internationally recognised actresses. She made history in 2005 when she became the first winner of the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Her international acting credit includes the British drama film Farming, based on the childhood experiences of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
The movie featured Nnaji alongside Hollywood stars Kate Beckinsale, Damson Idris, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
The story follows a young Nigerian boy who is “farmed out” by his parents to a white British family in search of a better future, only for him to become involved with a white skinhead gang.
Genevieve also became the first Nigerian filmmaker to have a film, Lionheart, released as a Netflix original from Nigeria.
10. Stanley Aguzie — International Television Roles
Stanley Aguzie is another Nigerian actor who has featured in international productions.
He appeared in the Irish-Canadian historical television drama series Vikings, gaining exposure to a global audience.
Aguzie also featured in the American television series Into the Badlands, where he played a loyalist to Quinn, one of the Barons of the Badlands.
His other international credits include the English documentary series Teens Who Kill Showing, which aired on CBS.
