The approval, according to the university, followed a successful resource verification exercise conducted by the regulatory agency to assess the institution’s readiness to offer the programmes.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin, KWASU’s Director of University Relations, Prof. Saeedat Aliyu, said the approval was communicated in a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman.
The letter was signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei.
Aliyu explained that the newly approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate courses and 10 postgraduate programmes, expanding the university’s academic offerings across several disciplines.
The approved undergraduate programmes include:
- B.Sc. Architecture
- B.Sc. Quantity Surveying
- B.Sc. Surveying and Geoinformatics
- B.NSc. Nursing Science
- B.Ed. Educational Technology
- B.Ed. Guidance and Counselling
- B.Ed. Health Education
- B.Ed. Entrepreneurship Education
- B.Sc. Insurance and Risk Management
- B.Ed. Technology Education
- B. Community Health Science
- B.Eng. Computer Engineering
- B.Eng. Industrial and Production Engineering
- B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering
The postgraduate programmes approved by the commission include M.A. and Ph.D. programmes in Fine and Applied Arts, M.A. and Ph.D. programmes in Performing Arts, M.A. Linguistics, PGD and M.Tech programmes, as well as Ph.D. programmes in Food Science and Technology, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Public Administration and Mass Communication.
Aliyu said the approval represents a major milestone for the institution and reflects KWASU’s continued efforts to expand access to quality higher education while responding to emerging academic and professional demands.
She quoted the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, as commending members of staff who contributed to the success of the NUC verification exercise.
“The university will continue to sustain the excellence in teaching, research, and community development for which the institution is reputed,” the Vice Chancellor said.
He added that the institution remains committed to producing highly skilled graduates and researchers capable of contributing to global development.
The approval is expected to broaden opportunities for prospective students while strengthening KWASU’s role in providing specialised training, research and innovation across key sectors.
