In a recent conversation that gained attention on Kiss Xtra, Afrobeats superstar Davido reflected on his journey in the music industry while offering guidance to upcoming artistes trying to break into the scene.
The singer, born David Adeleke, used the platform to stress that success in music is not only about talent but also about discipline, persistence, and maintaining a strong sense of purpose. He noted that the entertainment industry can be overwhelming once fame arrives, often pulling artists away from the values and routines that helped them succeed in the first place.
Davido encouraged young musicians to focus on personal growth and steady improvement rather than chasing quick recognition. He explained that his own rise was shaped by consistent practice, curiosity, and learning from available resources and people around him.
“My advice for up-and-coming artistes is first of all, believe in yourself. I worked on my craft so much. I loved music so much that I just wanted to get better every time. When I was young, I was learning from YouTube and the people around me,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of passion, saying that genuine love for music is what sustains long-term progress in the industry, especially during difficult phases when success is not immediate.
Beyond skill development, Davido placed strong emphasis on spirituality and grounding oneself in faith. He warned that fame can introduce distractions capable of shifting priorities and weakening one’s sense of direction.
“Secondly, love what you do and put God first and close, especially when you make it because there are so many distractions that can make you forget He is the reason you are here,” he added.
