Africa50 secures new investments and partnerships with BII, TAQA Arabia, TANESCO, and leading investors at Infra for Africa Forum 2026

The 2026 Infra for Africa Forum concluded on 6th August, with Africa50, the specialist investor in African infrastructure, securing new investment commitments and strategic partnerships to mobilize fresh capital for infrastructure delivery across the continent.

The investments will be channelled into infrastructure projects, green project development and the expansion of specialist healthcare services, translating new capital into projects and services that deliver economic impact.

Africa50, the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), and TAQA Arabia announced a partnership to establish the first phase of a small-scale Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project aimed at distributing domestic natural gas to industrial and transportation customers nationwide. Africa50 is developing the project with TAQA Arabia and TPDC, bringing its project development, investment and structuring expertise to create a bankable model for replication within and beyond Tanzania.

Africa50 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (TANESCO) to formalize collaboration between the two organizations for the implementation of electricity transmission Public-Private Partnerships in Tanzania, expected to deliver the first Independent Power Transmission project (IPT) in the country, leveraging Africa50’s breakthrough IPT project in Kenya.

Africa50 and Tanzania's Ministry of Health signed an MoU to expand the country’s public health system's ability to provide life-saving care to more patients with kidney diseases, as lack of access to dialysis and renal care puts lives in jeopardy across the country. The partnership will deliver state-of-the-art infrastructure, reliable equipment, experienced operators, and long-term investment.

British International Investment (BII) has committed US$20 million to the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund (IAF), becoming the Fund’s latest Limited Partner (LP), bringing the fund to approximately US$330 million in capital commitments. BII also signed an MoU with Africa50 to strengthen its partnership and identify areas for co-investment and capital mobilisation across African infrastructure.

IAF invests equity and quasi-equity in superior projects and operating platforms across power, transport and logistics, water and sanitation, and digital and social infrastructure. The Fund taps the group’s deep infrastructure expertise and distinguished relationships with African governments, corporates, developers, and market markers to deploy capital decisively to a pipeline of attractive investment opportunities.

The Fund exemplifies Africa50’s broader success in creating industry-leading infrastructure vehicles that mobilise a global community of public and private investors seeking economic impact and defensive equity exposure to the burgeoning African infrastructure asset class.

Mussa M. Makame, Managing Director of TPDC, said: This agreement reflects Tanzania’s commitment to using its natural gas resources to support national development. As a gas supplier to this project, TPDC will work with the project partners to broaden domestic access to cleaner, reliable energy and create greater value for the Tanzanian economy.”

Engineer Timoth Mgaya, Acting Managing Director of TANESCO, said: “Partnering with Africa50 provides Tanzania with strategic project-development and financing expertise as we unlock private capital for Africa’s transmission infrastructure. This collaboration helps revitalise East Africa’s power market. It reinforces the role of energy as a catalyst for supporting sustainable industrial development, economic integration, inclusive growth, and improving quality of life.

Pakinam Kafafi, CEO of TAQA Arabia subsidiary Rosetta Energy Solutions, said:This project will turn Tanzania’s abundant gas resources into reliable energy for industry, communities and transport, strengthening energy security and accelerating industrialization.”

Leslie Maasdorp, Chief Executive Officer of British International Investment, said, “Africa's infrastructure needs are significant, but so are the opportunities. This partnership reflects our shared ambition to mobilise more capital into sustainable infrastructure across the continent. By combining our expertise, networks and capital, we can help unlock investment that drives growth, creates jobs and improves lives.”

Alain Ebobissé, Group CEO at Africa50, said:“Africa50 was created to develop bankable projects, mobilize finance for investments in Africa’s infrastructure and accelerate delivery. That founding vision has grown into a world-class institution committed to development impact and commercially sound returns. Having successfully built this platform, we are now ready to raise our ambition, translating the vision of African leaders into infrastructure investments at scale that empower people, strengthen Africa’s global competitiveness and attract significant investment from within Africa and globally.”

The agreements were announced as Africa50 marked its tenth anniversary under the theme, ‘A Decade of Economic Impact: From Vision to Delivery.’
