The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) could be heading for a major transformation, with reports suggesting that the Ibrahim Gusau-led board may soon vacate office.
As uncertainty continues to surround the federation's leadership, former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has emerged as one of the names reportedly being considered for the NFF presidency.
Sources indicate that Olofinjana has attracted the support of influential figures within the National Sports Commission (NSC), who are believed to be favourably disposed to his possible emergence as a candidate for the federation's top position.
Although the situation remains fluid, his reported consideration has already drawn attention because of his extensive experience in football beyond the playing field.
From Super Eagles midfielder to football executive
Olofinjana, 46, enjoyed a successful playing career before transitioning into football administration and management.
Following his retirement from professional football, he began building experience in the technical and administrative aspects of the game. He subsequently worked with Wolverhampton Wanderers as Loans Pathway Manager, a position that exposed him to player development, recruitment and the management of young talents.
He later moved to Switzerland, where he became Sporting Director of Grasshopper Club Zürich.
His career took another significant step in 2024 when he joined Chelsea as Head of Scouting. In the role, Olofinjana has been involved in the identification and assessment of football talent, particularly across the African continent.
His professional journey has therefore given him exposure to different aspects of the modern football industry, from player development and recruitment to club management and strategic planning.
Academic qualifications strengthen profile
Olofinjana's credentials also extend beyond his football experience.
The former Super Eagles midfielder holds a UEFA Pro Licence and master's degrees in Sports Directorship and Project Management.
