Sor has been strongly linked with a transfer to newly promoted Turkish Super Lig club Amedspor, with reports indicating that negotiations between the player and the Turkish outfit are at an advanced stage.
The tricky winger is reportedly already in Turkey, where he is expected to complete his medical examinations before putting pen to paper on a contract with Amedspor.
Thorup has now added weight to the reports, revealing that Sor has not been around Genk in recent days and is unlikely to feature for the club during the new season.
“I don’t know if everything has been signed yet, but I can be honest enough to say that Yira hasn’t been at the club for the past two days. He won’t be with us this season,” Thorup told HLN.
Sor joined Genk from Czech First Division side Slavia Prague in January 2023 after making a name for himself in European football with the Prague-based club.
The Nigeria international arrived at Genk with a reputation for his pace, direct running and ability to operate in wide attacking positions. However, his time with the Belgian club appears to be coming to an end, with a move to Turkey now looking increasingly likely.
A transfer to Amedspor would see Sor begin a new chapter in his career as the Turkish club prepares for life in the Super Lig following its promotion.
While Thorup indicated that the final formalities may not yet have been completed, his comments suggest that Sor's departure from Genk is effectively settled, with the winger no longer involved with the squad.
The completion of his medical and the signing of his contract are expected to be the remaining steps before the transfer can be officially confirmed.
