Hundreds of newly admitted students of Covenant Mandate College of Health Technology and Medical Sciences, Ibadan, have been formally admitted into the institution at its maiden matriculation ceremony, with speakers charging them to embrace discipline, professionalism and excellence as they prepare for careers in the health sector.
The matriculation ceremony, held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the institution located at Covenant Cathedral, Covenant Bus Stop, Covenant City, Oloko, Apata, Ibadan, Oyo State, attracted parents and guardians, members of the academic community, traditional and community leaders, government representatives and other dignitaries.
The event marked a significant milestone in the development of the government-approved and accredited institution, as the new students took a formal step into their academic and professional journey.
Addressing the matriculating students, the Chief Executive Officer of Covenant Mandate College of Health Technology and Medical Sciences, Rev. Dr. Mercy Ajani, expressed gratitude to God for the successful accreditation processes carried out with relevant Oyo State ministries and federal health regulatory boards.
Ajani urged the students to remain committed to their studies, stressing that academic success in the healthcare profession requires more than classroom knowledge.
“I urge our matriculating students to remain focused, diligent and committed to their studies, knowing that God is the giver of wisdom and an excellent spirit.
“Healthcare is not just a profession; it is a calling to serve humanity, save lives and make a meaningful difference in society.
“As you begin this academic journey, trust absolutely in God, but also complement your faith with hard work, discipline and dedication.
“At Covenant Mandate College, our goal is not only to train healthcare professionals, but to raise competent, compassionate and responsible practitioners who will positively impact lives.”
The CEO further encouraged the students to take their academic responsibilities seriously and uphold the values, ethics and standards expected of people preparing for careers in healthcare.
She noted that the training received by the students would play an important role in preparing them to contribute meaningfully to healthcare delivery and the wellbeing of communities.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Professor Olalekan Adebimpe, charged the students to maintain strict adherence to professional ethics throughout their training.
Adebimpe also urged them to pay close attention to details, noting that precision, discipline and ethical conduct are essential qualities for anyone pursuing a career in the medical and health professions.
In a related charge, the Permanent Secretary/Inspector General of Education, Zone 3, Oyo State, described medical and health-related professions as a divine calling, given the responsibility practitioners bear in saving lives and improving the wellbeing of others.
The education official therefore urged the matriculating students to approach their academic training with seriousness, discipline, commitment and a strong sense of responsibility.
The maiden matriculation also provided an opportunity for the management of the college to acknowledge the support of government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders whose presence contributed to the success of the ceremony.
Expressing appreciation, Ajani thanked the Permanent Secretary/Inspector General of Education, Zone 3, the Local Inspector of Education (LIE), Ido Local Government Area, and the leadership of the LEO community, among other dignitaries, for honouring the institution and supporting its maiden matriculation.
Covenant Mandate College of Health Technology and Medical Sciences offers a range of programmes designed to prepare students for different areas of healthcare practice. Its programmes include Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW), Junior Community Health Extension Worker (JCHEW), Medical Imaging Technology (MIT), Health Information Management (HIM), Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS), Health Assistant and Caregiver programmes, among other health-related courses.
The institution said admission remains open for the 2026/2027 academic session, providing prospective students interested in pursuing careers in the health sector an opportunity to apply for available programmes.
