Tyson Fury has set his sights beyond Anthony Joshua, describing his fellow British heavyweight as merely a “stepping stone” on the road to a possible third meeting with Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury, who has not fought Usyk since suffering two defeats to the Ukrainian in 2024, made the declaration as he spoke publicly for the first time since his blockbuster fight with Joshua was confirmed for December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

The former heavyweight champion predicted a decisive victory, insisting that Joshua would not last beyond the opening seven rounds.

“I’m just going to knock him out, one hundred per cent,” Fury said on the Furocity YouTube channel on Sunday.

“I’m going to box the head off him and stop him inside six or seven rounds.”

Fury made it clear that another opportunity to face Usyk remains a major motivation, with Joshua representing an obstacle he intends to overcome before turning his attention back to the Ukrainian.

“I’m only using Joshua as a stepping stone, a warm-up to Usyk,” he said.

The outspoken former champion also took aim at Joshua’s physical condition, questioning whether the two-time world champion has enough speed and stamina to withstand his pressure over the course of the fight.

“Joshua, for me, is an old bum. A weightlifter. Too many weights, not enough speed. Too many weights, no cardio,” Fury said.

Fury went further in predicting how the contest would unfold, expressing confidence that he would overwhelm Joshua once the two heavyweights share the ring.

The December 11 encounter is set to bring together two of Britain’s most prominent heavyweight names in a fight carrying significant attention both domestically and internationally.

For Joshua, the bout presents an opportunity to answer Fury’s criticism in the ring and make a statement against one of the division’s most recognisable figures. Fury, meanwhile, is seeking to turn his confidence into a victory that could strengthen his pursuit of another encounter with Usyk.

With both men boasting considerable experience at the highest level, the Cardiff showdown is expected to attract major interest as the two British heavyweights finally prepare to settle their rivalry inside the ring.
